EquiPro
International Leads “Developing New Managers” Program At
Magazine Publishers of America
February 2003
Earning
a place in the managerial ranks used to be fairly straightforward—these
days, different rules apply. A distinct challenge for new
managers is that they are being hired or promoted into management
at a much younger age. New leaders come into the management
role with significantly less functional experience and organizational
maturing. Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) wanted to
offer its members a program that would address these concerns.
EquiPro led a half-day workshop for the MPA titled, “Developing
New Managers”. The participants were given the following
overview:
How
to understand the roles and expectations of a new manager,
compared to those of individual contributors
How
to create a motivating work environment
How
to choose an appropriate leadership style to delegate and
coach others
How
to analyze performance issues
How
to manage a boss successfully
Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) is the industry association
for consumer magazines. Established in 1919, the MPA represents
more than 200 US-based publishing companies with more than
1,200 titles; more than 75 international companies; and
more than 90 associate members providing services to the
industry.
